On the morning of May 14, 2025, the signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement on the “Joint Research Center for Advanced Low-Altitude Economy Technologies” between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) was held in Conference Room II of the International Conference Center.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Ma Zhiming, Director of the Shaanxi Liaison Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government; Professor Wan Chi-yung, Head of the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at PolyU; Professor Yue Xiaokui, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NPU Committee and Vice President of NPU; Ms. Xiang Dan, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office; Mr. Yu Hui, Party Secretary of the School of Aeronautics; Professor Wan Fangyi, Vice Dean of the School of Aeronautics; and Professor Zhou Jie. The signing ceremony was chaired by Mr. Kong Jie, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office.
Vice President Yue Xiaokui warmly welcomed the delegation led by Professor Wan Chi-yung and Mr. Ma Zhiming, reviewed the long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two universities in recent years, and recalled his pleasant visit to PolyU and exchanges with Professor Wan in the first half of last year. He noted that this reunion and the signing of the cooperation agreement on the joint research center mark a new starting point for strategic collaboration between the two universities in the field of the low-altitude economy.
Mr. Ma Zhiming highly praised the outstanding achievements made by both universities in the field of aeronautics, expressed his best wishes for the upcoming cooperation in low-altitude economy technologies, and hoped that, through joint efforts, people in both regions would benefit from the application of low-altitude economy technologies in daily life.
Professor Wan Chi-yung reviewed the extensive cooperation between the two universities in recent years in areas such as joint talent cultivation, academic exchange, and scientific research. He affirmed NPU’s strengths in aeronautics and astronautics disciplines and highly appreciated its effectiveness in talent training. He spoke highly of NPU students’ solid professional foundation, rigorous research attitude, and broad international vision, and expressed his expectation that more NPU students would step onto the international stage through joint training programs at PolyU. He further noted that, taking the signing of this agreement as an opportunity, both sides would achieve more outcomes in two-way talent development, scientific research cooperation, and especially the transformation of research achievements in the low-altitude economy sector.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Northwestern Polytechnical University have enjoyed a long history of cooperation and deep friendship. The signing of this cooperation agreement on the joint research center marks the opening of a new chapter of strategic collaboration in the field of low-altitude economy technologies.
