On the morning of May 21, 2025, the First China–Brazil Bilateral Aeronautics Academic Symposium was successfully held. More than twenty participants attended the symposium, including school leaders, young faculty members, and scholars from the School of Engineering of the University of São Paulo and the College of Science and Engineering of the University of Brasília.

Professor Suo Tao, Dean of the School, delivered a welcome speech to the six visiting scholars from leading Brazilian universities. He noted that in April this year, a delegation of professors from the School paid its first visit to Brazilian universities and achieved fruitful exchange outcomes. This return visit by Brazilian universities is expected to further promote substantive and in-depth cooperation between both sides, including joint talent cultivation programs, close collaboration and joint research between research teams, and the establishment of joint research institutes.

The symposium was chaired by Professor Zhou Jie and featured seven invited presentations. Young faculty members Wang Wandong and Miao Yinggang delivered academic reports entitled “Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Bonded Structures in Aeronautics” and “Controllable Kilohertz Impact Fatigue Loading Based on Cyclic Stress Waveguide Control and Its Integrity Evaluation of Aeronautical Alloys and Threaded Structures.”
Professor Leandro, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering of the University of Brasília, together with Associate Professor Artur, Director of the Aeronautics and Astronautics Program, presented the college’s recent research achievements in five major areas including aeronautics, astronautics, and automation.
Associate Professor Marcelo from the University of São Paulo introduced his research on composite material modeling for unmanned aerial vehicles, while Associate Professor Thiago from the University of Brasília presented the work of the fretting fatigue research team, including applications in aerospace, oil and gas, and electric power transmission.
After the symposium, the Brazilian scholars visited laboratories including the Impact Dynamics Laboratory, and spoke highly of the School’s advanced and comprehensive research facilities.

The University of São Paulo and the University of Brasília, both of which hold important positions in Brazil’s aeronautical engineering field, are key Brazilian partners that the School is actively developing this year. Under the framework of the national Belt and Road Initiative, the School will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation with Brazilian universities and strive to achieve substantive cooperation outcomes.
